In celebration of Chinese New Year 2021, this 9 Koi Upstream mural was created for the New Woey Loy Goey Restaurant through the Paint The void project and San Francisco Creative Corps. The mural depicts 9 rare koi who symbolize strength of purpose, determination and overcoming adversity. These beautiful hand painted koi bring joy, prosperity and good fortune to all that pass by. The use of colors found in Chinese porcelain, and a nod to Chinese brush painting techniques make this mural visually engaging with texture and layered meaning.

After over 60 years of tradition, the San Mateo Highlands neighborhood had to cancel their traditional 4th of July fireworks and midway. I created “no fire fireworks” and collaborated with my husband to create a painted, 3D, LED-lit mural “light show” for the community. The light show with twinkling “fireworks” was visited throughout the weekend of the celebrations and won an award in the community’s home decoration contest, as well as became a outdoor gathering space for social-distanced neighbor chat during the summer.

Commemorating the 4 year anniversary of the MN musician’s passing on April 21st, 2020 and coincided with the CBS broadcast of the Grammy’s Tribute to Prince. It became a focal point for community engagement, with an impromptu dance party, a writeup in the local newsletter, and featured in the neighborhood COVID scavenger hunt.

Created to celebrate the graduating class of 2020. Encouraged community engagement, with grads coming to get a photo to share with their family and friends.
